Mysteel: Seamless Pipe Prices Continue to Rise Nationwide During 2024 National Day

Market Overview:

During the National Day holiday, the transaction volume of seamless pipes in various regions slightly declined compared to pre-holiday levels. Most traders took turns for a 3-4 day break, while warehouses operated normally. By October 7th, the market had largely returned to normal operations. New shipments are gradually arriving, and post-holiday inventory is expected to see a slight increase.

Pipe Mills:

Major pipe mills maintained normal production during the holiday, with some enterprises conducting rotational maintenance. Overall supply remained relatively stable. Due to a decrease in shipments during the holiday, inventories saw a slight uptick compared to the last week before the holiday. With a significant rise in billet prices, pipe mills increased their quotes by 100-300 units, though profits generally declined due to the high cost of billets.

Market Sentiment:

Market sentiment during the holiday was slightly cooler than before, but overall price increases still followed the mills' hikes of 100-200 units. High-priced resources arriving during the holiday led traders to remain optimistic about post-holiday prices, though operations were noticeably more cautious, with limited pursuit of higher prices.

Regional Market Performance of East China: Post-holiday East China seamless pipe prices are expected to run strong with fluctuations

During the National Day holiday, most East China seamless pipe markets took a 3-5 day break, with normal loading and unloading activities. By October 5th, most markets had resumed normal operations.

Seamless pipe prices in East China ran strong during the holiday, with increases ranging from 80-300 units per ton. Alloy pipe resources rose by 150 units per ton. In Liaocheng, mainstream seamless pipe transactions for 1084.5mm were quoted at 4500 units per ton, thick-walled resources at 4150 units per ton, and 16mn resources at 4450 units per ton. In Linyi, 1084.5mm continuous rolling resources were quoted at 4520 units per ton, hot-rolled resources at 4400 units per ton, and cold-drawn resources at 4900 units per ton. Mainstream seamless pipe resources for 108*4.5mm were quoted at 4750 units per ton in Hefei, 4700 units per ton in Fuzhou, and 4650 units per ton in Hangzhou and Nanjing.

Due to downstream holidays, market transactions declined compared to pre-holiday levels, with traders' inventories remaining largely unchanged, replenishing as needed. Some pipe mills in Liaocheng and Linyi underwent maintenance, leading to a slight increase in factory inventories. Orders at pipe mills remained average, with rising steel mill costs and billet price increases outpacing seamless pipe prices, resulting in strong price support from pipe mills.

Post-holiday, market sentiment remains optimistic, with some pipe mills raising prices by 50-100 units on October 7th. In summary, East China seamless pipe prices are expected to run strong with fluctuations post-holiday.
